Polish senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski received a suspended eight‑month prison sentence on Tuesday, November 25, after Warsaw’s district court convicted him of abuse of power while overseeing Poland’s Supreme Audit Office.
Sentences Issued
On 25 November, Poland’s district court in Warsaw convicted senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and former PSL MP Jan Bury of abusing power in the appointment of officials at the Supreme Audit Office in 2013. Kwiatkowski received an eight‑month suspended sentence for a two‑year period, while Bury was given a six‑month suspended sentence. A third defendant, Pawel A., former deputy director of the NIK delegation in Rzeszów, also received a six‑month suspended sentence for the same period.
Alleged Misconduct
The court ruled that Kwiatkowski, as president of the NIK, acted against the public interest. Bury had allegedly encouraged and urged Kwiatkowski to exceed his authority, and Pawel A. was found guilty of passing information to Bury.
Verdict Status
The judgment has not yet become legally binding.
