Unknown assailants opened fire on people in the Holosiiv district of Kyiv, according to authorities.
An hour later, officials reported the attacker was “eliminated during detention.”
Police Operation and Hostage Situation
National Police KORD special forces entered a store where the suspect was located. During the arrest attempt, the suspect took hostages and fired at police.
Negotiators had previously attempted to contact the suspect, according to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the deaths of five people and expressed condolences to their families. Ten people are hospitalized with injuries, receiving necessary medical care. Four hostages were released.
Suspect’s Background
According to “Ukraińska Prawda,” the suspect was 58 years old, born in Moscow, but held Ukrainian citizenship.
He previously resided in Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast.
