Large Family Card with Two Children? The Unknown Rule Offering Huge Discounts

While the Large Family Card typically requires raising three children, many parents currently with only two are eligible for significant discounts due to specific legal exceptions.

What is the Large Family Card?

The Large Family Card (KDR) is a nationwide program offering discounts and waivers in public institutions and with commercial partners. It is available to Polish citizens and specific groups of EU and EFTA foreigners legally residing in Poland. While the rule generally requires raising three children, regulations provide exceptions. KDR does not always require currently raising three children; in many cases, parents with two children today remain eligible.

Who Qualifies for the Card?

According to the KDR Act, rights belong to members of a “large family,” defined as parents who raise or have raised at least three children in total, regardless of the children’s current age.

Changes Since 2019

Access to the card was expanded on January 1, 2019. Many seniors and parents currently raising only one or two children retain their rights if they previously raised three children but now have fewer dependents.

Eligibility After the Death of a Child

The death of a child does not strip parents of the right to the KDR. If parents had three children and one died, even immediately after birth, they retain eligibility even if they currently raise fewer children.

How to Apply

There are two paths to submit an application. The form must identify all entitled family members. The card is available in plastic form or electronically via the mObywatel application.

Practical Benefits

The KDR is a discount system that continues to expand. It offers real savings and numerous benefits, including for seniors, contrary to the perception that it is only for families with three or more children currently at home.
