Large Grass Fire Near Warsaw Metro Construction Site

A significant grass fire broke out on Bemowo, Warsaw, approaching the construction site of the Warsaw Metro Line II ventilation shaft.

Fire Breaks Out in Bemowo District

A large fire erupted in unused land on Tarczowa Street in the Bemowo district of Warsaw. The fire quickly spread in multiple directions due to strong winds, posing a threat to nearby infrastructure.

Metro Construction Site Threatened

The fire moved towards the Warsaw Metro Line II construction site, specifically the area housing a ventilation shaft. Flames reached the construction site’s fencing, but did not spread onto the construction grounds. No injuries were reported.

Extent of Damage and Firefighting Efforts

Approximately 2 hectares of grass were burned. Seven fire crews were dispatched to extinguish the blaze and prevent further spread.

Potential for Serious Consequences

The fire near the metro construction site could have had more serious consequences, as the western extension of Warsaw Metro Line II, including new stations and ventilation shafts, is currently under construction in Bemowo.

Illegal Burning of Grass and Penalties

Authorities consistently warn against the illegal and dangerous practice of burning grass, especially during dry conditions and strong winds. Stricter penalties will be in effect from January 2, 2026, with fines up to 30,000 zł, maximum penalties of 5,000 zł, and potential imprisonment or restriction of freedom.
