Polish Law and Justice MP Maria Kurowska has denied sending an alleged e‑mail that media outlet Onet claims originated from her parliamentary account.
Statement Denies Authenticity
Maria Kurowska released a statement asserting that the e‑mail in question was not sent by her. She claims all correspondence related to the matter came solely from her private address, and she has no proof that she ever used her official mailbox for such communication.
Personal Circumstances Context
Kurowska explained that during the period the e‑mail supposedly was sent, she was grieving her husband’s death and was completely withdrawn from public duties. She noted that on that day she was present at a parliamentary session in which she participated in dozens of votes.
Calls for Media Accountability
The MP expressed doubts over what she perceives as a deliberate media effort to create a narrative of MPs’ misconduct while they comply with the law. She questions who actually produced the alleged e‑mail, proposing possibilities ranging from the prosecutor’s office to a political consultant’s office. She further cites that the materials presented to the press carry typical political scolding aimed at her opponents.
Appeal to Google
Kurowska directed a direct question to Google Poland, asking whether any correspondence from her parliamentary mailbox left a trace on Google’s servers on 24 July 2020 at 13:33. She argued that any genuine message would leave a technical trail and urged Google for a clear statement to determine whether the incident is factual or a political provocation.
Onet Claims
Onet alleged that Kurowska sent messages to Tomasz Mraza—former director of the Fairness Fund—requesting that no contracts with municipalities be signed without her consultation, and that she suggested specific municipalities, institutions, and grant amounts. The MP denies sending any such emails from her parliamentary account. She also pointed to a 26 November social media post accusing the Tusk team of wrongdoing in securing funds for her constituency.
Fairness Fund Investigation
The background of the story involves an ongoing investigation into irregularities in the spending of the Fairness Fund. Prosecutors intend to charge former minister Zbigniew Ziobro with 26 accusations, including organized crime, and he, along with associate Marcin Romanowski, is reportedly in Hungary.
