Olsztyn court case against lawyer Paweł K., who called victims’ car a ‘coffin on wheels,’ delayed due to document delivery error.
Court Failed to Deliver Documents to Paweł K.
Since April, the Olsztyn District Court has failed to deliver to Paweł K. documents confirming acceptance of the appeal and copies of the appeals from auxiliary prosecutors and the prosecution. Court spokesman Adam Barczak informed TVN24.pl that the correspondence did not reach the “address indicated by the accused.” He added that no new date for the hearing has been set yet.
Court Did Not Complete Required Formalities
Lawyer Karol Rogalski, representing the families of the deceased, told TVN24.pl that Paweł K. had informed the court during the first instance trial that he had changed his address of residence. “I don’t know why this wasn’t caught earlier. I’m not suggesting it’s intentional court action to prolong the case, but I am certainly very sorry about the situation for the families of the women who lost their lives,” Rogalski said.
The lawyer noted that copies of all documents were sent to Paweł K.’s defense attorneys, so they also must have known the contents of the appeals. “However, this does not change the fact that the court actually failed to complete the required formalities,” stated the lawyer.
Fatal Accident Near Olsztyn. Paweł K. Spoke of “Coffin on Wheels”
The accident occurred on September 26, 2021, near Olsztyn, on the Barczewo-Jeziorany route. Investigators determined that Paweł K., driving a Mercedes, crossed a double solid line and collided with a properly traveling Audi. Two women in the Audi died at the scene.
After the accident, Paweł K. posted a recording online. He stated in it that the accident was “a confrontation between a safe car and a coffin on wheels.” – “And for that reason those women died,” he said.
