On Friday, Oct. 10, a Polish court ordered a three‑month pre‑trial detention of 33‑year‑old Marcin R., who is accused of causing a fatal collision at the Łebieńska Steelworks in the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Pre‑trial Detention Order

On Friday, the district court in Wejherowo imposed a three‑month pre‑trial detention on Marcin R., who is alleged to have caused the fatal incident on Tuesday. The defendant was arrested the same day and is currently held on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

Details of the Accident

The collision occurred near the Łebieńska steelworks. Marcin, driving a cargo vehicle, struck a group of four pedestrians on the road’s side—three cyclists and one foot traveller. A 10‑year‑old boy died, and the remaining three sustained serious injuries.

Charges of Negligence and Substance Abuse

Prosecutors added that Marcin failed to render aid to the victims and that he was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He is also charged with failure to provide assistance to those injured.

Previous Conviction in Denmark

The Wejherowo District Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Marcin had earlier been convicted abroad for similar offenses. He was apprehended by Danish police, and the prosecution notes the availability of a criminal record indicating driving while intoxicated and under the influence of narcotics.
