A 60‑year‑old driver stopped a Lexus near the end of Mieczysława Orłowicza Street in Warsaw’s Powiśle district to let a passenger exit. As she stepped down, the vehicle started moving forward.
Pedal Mix‑Up Accelerates Lexus
While trying to bring the car to a halt, the driver reached for the pedals with his foot. Instead of stepping on the brake, he pressed the accelerator, causing the automatic gearbox to surge the vehicle forward.
Injuries and Building Collision
The sudden acceleration threw the passenger onto the driver’s foot, and the car then struck a garbage‑collection building adjacent to the street. The passenger was injured and immediately taken to hospital.
Emergency Response and Police Investigation
Firefighters and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene. They secured the site, inspected the damaged vehicle, and contained leaking operating fluid. Medical staff treated the passenger before hospital transfer. Afterward, police collected evidence and preserved the scene to determine the exact causes of the incident.
