Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda hospitalized after accident, requires surgery for forearm wound.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda was transported to Vilnius University Hospital for surgery after receiving first aid following an accident. According to a Palace statement, the 61-year-old president suffered a torn wound on his left forearm and is expected to remain in the hospital overnight for observation.

Presidential Schedule

According to the Lithuanian president’s schedule, Nauseda had no planned activities over the weekend, while his wife Diana Nausediene participated in a conference in Vilnius on the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Presidential Background

Gitanas Nauseda has been the president of Lithuania since 2019. Previously, he worked at the Bank of Lithuania and SEB bankas, where he was chief economist. In 2018, he announced his candidacy in the presidential election as an independent. In the second round, he defeated Ingrida Simonyte, also an economist, who later became Prime Minister of Lithuania. Nauseda and his wife have two adult daughters.
