Łomianki Crash: Two Dead, Driver Arrested for DUI and Hit-and-Run

A fatal collision in Łomianki, Poland, on April 12th resulted in two deaths and left another critically injured, leading to the arrest of the Audi driver.

Fatal Accident in Łomianki

The accident occurred on Sunday, April 12th, around 6:00 PM. The driver of an Audi was traveling at high speed on DK7 towards Warsaw, weaving through traffic.

On a viaduct in Łomianki, the Audi collided with a Toyota, causing it to fly over the barriers into oncoming traffic and overturn multiple times, colliding with four other vehicles.

Two Fatalities Confirmed

The crash resulted in the deaths of a 19-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy. The 20-year-old Toyota driver was initially hospitalized in critical condition but later died.

Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba confirmed the young man’s death in hospital at midnight.

Driver and Passenger Flee Scene, Later Apprehended

The Audi driver, 44-year-old Patryk R., and passenger, 33-year-old Piotr B., fled the scene. Police apprehended them nine hours later.

Both men had a blood alcohol content of 0.5 per mille. They had consumed one liter of vodka and six beers four hours before the accident.

Driver’s Prior Driving Violations

The Audi driver had two prior driving bans: one from 2023 for driving under the influence of alcohol (lasting five years), and another from 2026 for failing to stop for a traffic control (also lasting five years). The second ban was issued two months before the accident.

A search of Patryk R.’s residence also revealed a small amount of marijuana.

Criminal Charges Filed

Prosecutors have charged the 44-year-old driver with three offenses: causing a fatal accident while under the influence of alcohol, fleeing the scene, and failing to assist the victims (punishable by 5 to 10 years imprisonment).

He also faces charges for driving while prohibited (up to 5 years imprisonment) and possession of narcotics (up to 3 years imprisonment). The passenger has been charged with failing to assist the victims, facing up to three years imprisonment.
