A low-pressure system named Dave brought record-breaking temperatures to Poland over Easter, but a cooling trend is expected starting Monday, April 6th.
Low Dave Dictates Weather Conditions
Temperature fluctuations in Poland are attributed to low Dave, which is moving deeper into Europe. Most of the country was situated between its warm and cold fronts during Easter.
Sunday proved to be the warmest day of the year, with a temperature of 21.4 degrees Celsius recorded in Legnica at 13:00. The influx of warm air from the southwest resulted in predominantly sunny weather.
Strong Wind Warnings Issued for Seven Provinces
However, a cooling trend is expected starting on Easter Monday (April 6th). A cold front will move across Poland from west to east overnight.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued first-degree warnings for strong winds covering seven provinces, including southwestern regions and areas from the north to the northeast.
Alert Areas and Duration
The warnings apply to parts of the West Pomeranian, Pomeranian, Kujawian-Pomeranian, Mazovian, Podlaskian, and southern parts of Lower Silesian provinces, as well as the entire Warmian-Masurian province.
Alerts will be in effect until Sunday night in the northeastern part of the country and Lower Silesia, and until Monday evening on the coast, where wind gusts may reach up to 85 km/h. The first-degree warning indicates conditions conducive to dangerous meteorological phenomena that could cause material damage and pose a threat to health and life.
Fire Department Interventions
Andrzej Piechowski of the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk reported that firefighters in Pomerania responded to over 60 incidents between 8:00 on Saturday (April 4th) and the afternoon of Sunday (April 5th). Most interventions occurred in the Gdańsk, Kartuski, and Wejherowo counties.
Most interventions involved removing the effects of strong winds, including fallen trees and broken branches. Four incidents involved damage to roof elements, including ridges, sheet metal roofing, and chimney fragments. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
Cooling Trend and Subsequent Weather
On Monday, Poland will be in the rear part of low Dave, with cool and humid air flowing into the country. A high-pressure system named Quirin will develop towards France and Germany in the afternoon, bringing clear skies to western Poland.
However, the pressure difference will also increase significantly. Scattered showers are expected. Rain with snow or sleet is possible in the north and northeast, and thunderstorms are also possible in the northeast. Snowfall is expected at higher elevations.
Temperature Forecast
The maximum temperature across most of the country will range from 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. It will be cooler in the north, northeast, and foothills, ranging from 7 to 9 degrees Celsius. Winds will be moderate to strong, with gusts up to 65 km/h. On the north and east, winds will reach around 70 km/h. Strong and very strong winds are expected along the coast, up to 55 km/h with gusts up to 85 km/h. At higher elevations, wind gusts will reach 75 km/h, potentially causing blizzards and snowdrifts in the Tatras.
Regional Forecasts – Warsaw and Beyond
Warsaw is expected to have overcast skies with occasional clearings and scattered showers overnight, with a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. Monday in the capital will see moderate to heavy cloud cover, with a possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms. The maximum temperature will be 11 degrees Celsius. Winds will be moderate, occasionally strong and gusty, up to 60 km/h, with gusts up to 65 km/h during thunderstorms.
Tuesday (April 7th) will see cloud cover with occasional clearings throughout the country. Scattered rain is possible in the east and center, and snow in the mountains. Strong winds will prevail, with gusts up to 40-60 km/h in the west and 50-70 km/h in the northeast. Similar weather is expected on Wednesday (April 8th), with moderate winds and strong gusts.
Large cloud cover is expected in the east of the country on Thursday (April 9th), with scattered rain and snow in the southeast and snow in the mountains. The rest of Poland will be relatively clear. Extensive cloud cover will cover the entire country on Friday (April 10th), with possible rain in the south and snow in the mountains. Winds will be occasionally strong.
