Overall Approval of President Trump
The poll indicates that overall support for the US president remains largely stable, with 40% of respondents approving of his actions – a 1-point increase since a previous Reuters and Ipsos poll following the attacks on Iran.
Support for War with Iran
37% of those surveyed support a war against Iran, while 59% oppose it. However, attitudes vary based on political affiliation.
77% of Republican voters support attacks on Iran, compared to 28% of independent voters and only 6% of Democratic voters.
Opposition to Deploying Troops
Americans do not want to send troops to Iran.
63% of Republican voters – and 34% of all Americans – said they would support sending a small number of special forces soldiers to Iran. However, 55% of respondents oppose sending any ground troops, regardless of the scale of the operation.
The poll was conducted from Tuesday to Thursday among a representative sample of 1,545 US adults, with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
Escalation of Conflict in the Middle East
The conflict in the Middle East began on February 28th following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. In response, Tehran and affiliated armed groups are attacking US targets in the region.
Call to Deprive Enemies of “Security”
According to AP, Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Chamenei, issued a call to deprive domestic and foreign enemies of “security.”
Chamenei’s statement was delivered to President Masoud Pezeshkian following Israel’s attack that killed Iranian intelligence minister Esmail Chatib. Mojtaba Chamenei succeeded his father, 86-year-old Ali Chamenei, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the first day of the war, February 28th, as Supreme Leader.
