The office of European Parliament deputy Łukasz Kohut in Katowice was defaced with swastikas and the slogan “Naziol” on both the exterior and interior of the building. The incident was photographed and shared by the politician on social media.

Politician’s Response

On Sunday, Kohut posted a statement condemning the act and criticized the rise of right‑wing hatred in Poland. He declared, “I will not be intimidated. We will continue our work—Silesia is open, multicultural, and united—and called for an end to Nazi rhetoric and vandalism.” He also reported the incident to the police.

The Silesian Embassy Concept

Łukasz Kohut established the Silesian Embassy in 2021 as a parliamentary office and event space. He promotes it as open to all associations, cultural groups, and social activists, particularly those from the Silesian region.

Political Background of Łukasz Kohut

Formerly a photographer, Kohut was active in the Ruch Palikota movement in 2012. He ran for the Polish Sejm in 2015 with the United Left list, which did not cross the threshold. He was elected to the European Parliament in 2019 from the list of Wiosna — Robert Biedroń and ran again from the Civic Coalition list in 2024. In the European Parliament, he serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee.
