On Sunday, European Parliament member Łukasz Kohut posted on social media that his office in Katowice had been defaced with Nazi slogans such as “Naziol” and swastikas painted both inside and outside the building. He stated the attack was part of a rising far‑right hate wave in Poland and that he had already reported the incident to the police.
About the Slavic Embassy in Katowice
Łukasz Kohut opened the Slavic Embassy in 2021 while still a Member of the European Parliament for the Left. The space functions both as a parliamentary office and a venue for events, welcoming cultural associations, artists, activists, and members of the Zagłębie community.
Profile of Łukasz Kohut
Polish politician, former photographer, had earlier joined the Palikot Movement in 2012. He unsuccessfully ran for the Sejm in 2015 with the United Left, won a seat in 2019 with Robert Biedroń’s Spring list, and was elected in 2024 on the Civic Coalition list. In the European Parliament he serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee.
