Lviv Eagles March and Sunday Procession Stir Weekend Congestion in Warsaw Center

On Saturday, Nov. 22, a 1918‑19 Lviv‑Eagles march will line Warsaw’s heart, followed Sunday by a procession from St. John’s Archcathedral to St. Florian Cathedral, creating congestion and transit changes in the centre.

Saturday – Lviv Eagles March

On Saturday, November 22, 2025, the march will start at 3 p.m. at Trzech Krzyży Square in the city centre and conclude at Piłsudski Square near the Unknown Soldier’s Tomb, traversing a central stretch of the Royal Route.

The event is organised by the “Always Faithful – To You Poland” Association and the “We Remember Volhynia” Foundation; it commemorates the young defenders of Lviv and Przemyśl who, in November 1918, volunteered to guard the cities against Ukrainian forces amid the absence of regular Polish Army units.

Sunday – Procession from Archcathedral to Cathedral in Praga

On Sunday, November 23, a procession will travel from St. John the Baptist Archcathedral at Świętojańska 8 in the Old Town to St. Florian Martyr Cathedral at Floriańska 3 in Praga Północ, linking the two principal churches on either side of the Vistula.

The route passes close to Zamkowe Square, the Royal Route, Targowa Street, and “Solidarity” Avenue, and will similarly affect traffic and public‑transport services in the central area.

Participants and Significance

The march’s name derives from the “Lviv Eagles” and “Przemyśl Eagles”—youthful residents of the cities, including students, workers, scouts, and other volunteers—who defended the towns in 1918‑19 against Ukrainian forces.

The occasion both memorialises those specific historic battles and symbolically underscores the role of Polish youth in the nation’s struggle for independence.

Impact on Traffic and Public Transport

Road closures on Saturday and Sunday will occur around Trzech Krzyży Square, the Royal Route, Piłsudski Square, the Old Town, and Floriańska Street, potentially altering public‑transport schedules in the city centre.

Drivers and commuters are advised to account for possible street closures and to monitor current city and police notifications for updates.
