Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro has written to Russia, China and Iran seeking military assistance, including radar transfers and aircraft repairs, amid escalating tensions with the United States.
Maduro Files Requests for Military Support
According to internal documents cited by the Washington Post, President Nicolas Maduro asked Venezuela’s armed forces for assistance from Russia, China and Iran. The requests included the transfer of defensive radars, aircraft maintenance, and even missile support.
Letters to Chinese and Russian Leaders
Maduro is reported to have written to Chinese President Xi Jinping urging an extension of military cooperation to counter “escalation between the US and Venezuela”. A separate note addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin requested aircraft repairs and stipends for rockets.
Additionally, the Venezuelan Minister of Transport is said to have discussed drone deliveries with Iranian officials.
US Alleged Attack Plan Denied by Trump
Miami Herald and Wall Street Journal reported that the United States would strike Venezuelan military sites and infrastructure used by the Soles drug cartel, aiming to eliminate its leadership. President Donald Trump refuted that such a decision had been made.
United States has significantly increased its military presence along Venezuela’s coast, deploying a group with three destroyers and about 4,500 troops, supported by patrol and reconnaissance aircraft. The White House says the operation targets drug cartels.
