Polish singer and director Magda Umer has died, her family announcing the death on Facebook this afternoon.

Family announces death

Magda Umer’s family released the news that she died this afternoon. “Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away this afternoon. She loved to visit and write here. Mateusz and Franek,” the message read on the artist’s Facebook profile, accompanied by a photo.

Career highlights

Born 9 October 1949 in Warsaw, Umer began her career at the end of the 1960s performing in student cabarets, including at the Stodoła club. She appeared at music festivals such as Opole, winning prizes several times. One notable performance was in 1970 when she sang “Koncert jesienny na dwa świerszcze iwiatr w kominie”.

Umer collaborated with performers including Agnieszka Osiecka, Włodzimierz Nahorny and Wojciech Młynarski. She was also a songwriter and director and served on the board of the Polish Music Foundation.
