Following parliamentary elections in Hungary on April 12th, Peter Magyar is demanding a revote in one district, alleging unfair tactics by Fidesz.
Tight Race in Sarvar District
In the Sarvar district of western Hungary, Fidesz candidate Peter Agh received 46.26% of the vote, while Tisza candidate Viktoria Strompova received 45.79%. Independent candidate Peter Magyar garnered 1.6% of the vote, resulting in Agh winning the seat.
Magyar Alleges ‘Russian Scenario’
Magyar stated on X (formerly Twitter), “This is a Russian scenario in its most cynical form. Fidesz fielded a proxy candidate – one Peter Magyar – who doesn’t even live in this district but attends Fidesz events. This wasn’t fair competition, but a deliberate attempt to mislead voters.”
Call for Revote
Magyar has called on Agh to reject the mandate to allow for a new election to be held in the district.
Tisza Secures Majority
Results from the April 12th Hungarian parliamentary elections, based on the count of 99.99% of votes, show the TISZA party winning 141 seats in the 199-member National Assembly, according to the National Election Office (NVI).
Constitutional Changes Possible
The latest election data guarantees Tisza a qualified majority of 133 seats, enabling them to change the constitution and laws adopted during the 16-year rule of Viktor Orbán.
Orbán’s Village Under Scrutiny
Journalists have faced a cool reception in Viktor Orbán’s village following the elections. Orbán formally remains the outgoing prime minister.
Orbán’s Assets
While Orbán formally resides in a modest home in Felcsut, his family owns nearby properties worth hundreds of millions of złoty.
