A large fire broke out at the Zawodzie waste collection point on the border of Wilanów and Mokotów Saturday night, drawing 10 firefighting units to contain the blaze across three waste bays.
Emergency Response in Warsaw
The fire erupted at the Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point (PSZOK) on Zawodzie Street shortly before 10:30 PM. Three waste bays, each measuring approximately 20 by 15 meters, were engulfed in flames.
Ten firefighting units and a municipal operational group were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters initiated suppression efforts by deploying multiple water streams to combat the burning refuse.
Current Status and Operations
The situation is currently under control, and the fire has been prevented from spreading to other areas of the facility. Firefighters remain on-site to conduct the tedious task of extinguishing the smoldering remains.
Crews are currently shifting and drenching the debris to reach hotspots deep within the waste piles. The exact cause and circumstances of the fire remain unknown and will be investigated once the operation concludes.
History of Incidents at the Facility
This is not the first fire at the Zawodzie PSZOK site. A previous major incident occurred on July 23, 2025, when flames consumed 200 square meters of municipal waste in two bays, requiring a response from 22 firefighting units.
