Major Gas Pipeline Incident in Szczecin Creates Towering Fireball

Emergency crews responded to a gas pipeline explosion during construction work on Łączna Street in Szczecin on February 5.

Gas Ignition During Construction Work

The incident occurred on Thursday, February 5, at 9:27 AM at Łączna Street 1 in Szczecin. During ongoing construction work, a gas pipeline was damaged. As a result of the leak, the escaping gas ignited. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Evacuation of Residents

For safety reasons, the fire department decided to evacuate residents from a building near the incident site. A total of 17 people were evacuated. According to authorities, no injuries were reported, and the residents did not require medical assistance.

Fire Department and Gas Emergency Response

Four fire brigades were at the scene. The Provincial Fire Command in Szczecin and the City Fire Command also dispatched operational groups. Concurrently, the gas emergency service began shutting off the gas supply and securing the damaged installation. The area was properly secured.

Situation Under Control, Investigation Underway

Authorities report that the situation has been brought under control and there is no threat to nearby residents. After the rescue operations are completed, an investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the damage to the gas pipeline during the construction work.
