Police in Warsaw, Poland, apprehended a 50-year-old man attempting to defraud an elderly citizen of 366,960 złoty (€85,000) by posing as a courier.
Swift Police Intervention Prevents Fraud
Criminal investigators swiftly intervened to stop a scam targeting an elderly man who was about to hand over 366,960 złoty to an individual posing as a courier at a bus stop.
The operation was successful due to information received from Warsaw’s Criminal Department, allowing officers to act decisively.
Intelligence-Led Operation
Police from the Praga Południe district received intelligence regarding a potential fraud involving the “police officer” scam.
Knowing time was critical, officers quickly positioned themselves in the area where the exchange was expected to occur.
Apprehension and Evidence Seizure
Officers observed both the victim and the suspect, who was scouting for the elderly man with a shopping bag. They intervened as the money was being handed over.
The 50-year-old suspect was immediately arrested, and the 366,960 złoty was secured. Additionally, several grams of mephedrone were found in his possession.
Legal Proceedings and Custody
The suspect has been charged with attempted fraud and possession of narcotics.
Following a request from the Warsaw-Praga Południe District Prosecutor’s Office, a court has ordered the suspect to be temporarily detained.
