Police arrested a man on Powązkowska Street after he beat a shop manager during a dispute over stolen goods.
Incident Details
Police from Żoliborz responded to Powązkowska Street following a report of a shop manager being beaten. The manager was attempting to resolve the matter peacefully with a customer who had previously stolen merchandise. During the conversation, the man suddenly attacked the manager, striking him multiple times in the head.
According to officers, at approximately 11:00 AM, a store monitor spotted a man concealing merchandise in his pockets and sleeves before leaving without paying. The stolen items were hidden in nearby snow.
Arrest and Charges
The shop manager was informed of the theft and confronted the man. The 40-year-old suspect then struck the manager in the head several times. Police were called and arrested the aggressive man. A breathalyzer test revealed he had over 2 permille of alcohol in his system. Officers also determined he had left prison the day before the incident.
The shop manager suffered a broken nose as a result, constituting an impairment of bodily function for over seven days.
Legal Consequences
The 40-year-old was charged with causing bodily harm. The offense was committed within five years of serving at least six months in prison for a similar intentional crime, meaning he will be prosecuted as a repeat offender. He faces up to 7.5 years in prison. The case is supervised by the Warsaw Żoliborz District Prosecutor’s Office.
