Man Breaks Into Krakow Apartment, Attempts to Strangle 13-Year-Old

A 41-year-old man broke into a Krakow apartment and attempted to strangle a 13-year-old girl while her family slept, police report.

Night Attack in Krakow

On the night of January 7-8 at around 1:50 AM, police received a report of a dangerous incident in a building on Grzegórzkach. An unknown person entered an unlocked apartment where a woman lived with her two daughters.

Sequence of Events

The older girl heard noises from the staircase and moments later the intruder entered her room, looked through her bag, took a laptop from her bed, and left. The 17-year-old then woke her mother, and the stranger returned, heading to the 13-year-old’s room.

The intruder grabbed the sleeping girl by the neck, attempting to strangle her, and struck her in the face. He fled when the girl screamed, awakening everyone in the apartment. The 13-year-old suffered superficial injuries in the attack.

Suspect Arrested

Police quickly established a description of the perpetrator and arrested 41-year-old Damian M. He has been charged with attempted murder and theft. The court ordered his temporary arrest for three months.

Prosecutor’s Warning

The Krakow District Prosecutor’s Office reminded residents to always lock their apartment doors for safety. The suspect faces a penalty of 15 years to life imprisonment.
