The District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostróda launched an investigation against 44-year-old Bogdan L., suspected of attempted robbery using a dangerous tool, namely an axe, under Article 13 §1 of the Penal Code in conjunction with Article 280 §2. The incident occurred on March 2 in the evening at the CELMED medical facility parking lot on Wojska Polskiego Avenue.
According to investigators, Wiesław G. had arrived to pick up his wife, Elżbieta G., who was finishing her shift. While waiting in his parked car, an unknown man suddenly entered the vehicle. Prosecutor Elżbieta Edyta Łukasiewicz reported that “the attacker held an axe in his right hand, directing the blade toward the victim.”
Victim’s Account
The perpetrator grabbed the keys in the ignition and demanded the driver immediately leave the car. A struggle ensued between the attacker and Wiesław G. The victim’s wife noticed the commotion as she approached the car. She intervened, and the couple managed to overpower the attacker and seize the axe. However, the suspect managed to flee the scene.
The victims immediately reported the incident to the duty officer at the Ostróda Municipal Police Station. Patrols were dispatched to the scene, and the suspect was located and arrested within a short time. Prosecutor Łukasiewicz stated, “approximately 10 minutes after the report, a man matching the description provided by the victims was found and arrested several hundred meters from the robbery site.”
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Bogdan L. was questioned as a suspect and admitted to the alleged act. He explained that he entered the car and demanded the driver exit but denied making threats or using the axe as described by investigators. The suspect claimed he “held the axe between his legs” and added that he had stolen the tool earlier from an unknown property. He also admitted to being under the influence of mephedrone, taken that morning.
The investigation began on March 4, 2026. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostróda charged the 44-year-old with attempted robbery using a dangerous tool. At the prosecutor’s request, the court applied a preventive measure of temporary detention for Bogdan L. for three months. For the alleged offense, the suspect faces a penalty of 3 to 20 years’ imprisonment.
