Initial Crime and Investigation
The crime occurred between October and November 2017 in Czeladź. The initial investigation was closed due to the unknown identity of the perpetrator.
The body of Jacek S., a homeless man living in a tent near a local cemetery, was found on November 1st, 2017, near ul. Saturnowska. He had suffered dozens of cuts and stab wounds to his head, neck, and hands.
Despite securing evidence, conducting searches, and expert analysis, the investigation overseen by the Będzin District Prosecutor’s Office yielded no results and was closed at the end of 2018. New evidence later emerged, leading to the arrest and detention of Przemysław K.

Falling Crime Rates in Silesian Voivodeship
The Silesian police force, the largest in the country with 11,286 officers, had 1,430 vacant positions at the end of last year. Nearly one-third of the force is dedicated to preventative patrol.
In 2024, they responded to 560,000 incidents, detaining nearly 10,000 suspects, identifying 935,000 individuals, and recording 855,000 offenses, according to police spokesperson Sabina Chyra-Giereś.
A total of 106,000 crimes were reported in the Silesian Voivodeship in 2024, a decrease of almost 7,000 from 2023. However, detection rates have slightly declined. Katowice recorded the highest number of incidents.
