A 68-year-old man jumped from a third-floor window in Warsaw’s Żoliborz district on May 4, as police discovered a second body wrapped in plastic inside the residence.
The Incident at Powązkowska Street
On the evening of Monday, May 4, residents called police after noticing a foul odor and the prolonged absence of neighbors in a third-floor apartment. As officers and firefighters attempted to enter the unit through a window, a 68-year-old man jumped from the opposite side of the residence and died despite resuscitation efforts.
New information indicates the man had a rope around his neck attached to a radiator, which likely snapped during the jump. Investigators also recovered a suicide note apologizing to his daughter, though it reportedly contained no mention of the second deceased individual.
Murder and Suicide Investigations
Warsaw District Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba confirmed that authorities are pursuing two separate investigations: a murder inquiry regarding an unidentified man found in a plastic bag, and the circumstances surrounding the 68-year-old’s death. Investigators are also examining whether someone may have driven the second man to take his own life.
The victims are believed to be brothers, 68-year-old Dariusz D. and 61-year-old Roman D., who likely resided in the apartment. While identification documents for both men were found on-site, the body found in the plastic bag was in a significant state of decomposition.
Forensic Identification and Autopsies
DNA testing will be required to officially confirm the identity of the second man. Both bodies have been transported to the Department of Forensic Medicine for autopsies to determine the exact causes of death, with results expected later this week.
