On December 8, the Gdańsk District Court sentenced 31‑year‑old Tomasz K. to 26 years in prison for murdering his wife and staging a railway‑crossing collision, ordering him to pay 261 000 zł in compensation.
Verdict in Gdańsk
Tomasz K. was found guilty of murdering his wife and was sentenced to 25 years for the murder, an additional 1 year for creating a direct danger of catastrophe, and to the death penalty for property damage, bringing the total to 26 years in prison. The court declared the verdict not yet final.
He is also ordered to pay 150 000 zł in compensation to the victim’s family, 100 000 zł to the injured parties, and 11 000 zł to the Polish State Railways.
Murder Plot and Fake Crash
Investigators say that the plot began on January 10 2024 when Tomasz waited for his wife, a 31‑year‑old salon operator, to be alone, killed her, and buried the body in the trunk of their car.
He allegedly intended to transport the remains and leave the car on the tracks, so that a moving train would collide with it, masking the murder as an accidental collision.
January 10 Incident at Mezowo
A train collided with a passenger car at a crossing in Mezowo in early 2024. While the woman inside was alive after the impact, prosecutors report that she died from blows to the head delivered by a blunt object, not from the collision injuries.
The death was staged to appear as a fatal collision, yet the court found evidence of premeditated murder.
