Massive fire engulfs Biedronka supermarket in Polkowice on Sunday morning; roof collapses as two firefighters injured during extinguishment.
Fire Rages at Biedronka Store
A fire broke out on Sunday (1 February) before 11:00. The entire building of the Biedronka store on Ogrodowa Street is engulfed in flames. Numerous fire brigades from the entire county are at the scene. “The situation is dramatic!” reports the 112 Polkowice portal.
Building Structure Collapsing
According to a spokesman for the Polkowice Fire Service, interviewed by Radio ESKA, the building’s structure is being destroyed. “The fire is not yet contained, it is still spreading. We are using water from four hydrants and three water streams. The roof has collapsed, and walls are also collapsing,” said Lt. Adrian Ziemiański. He added the fire spread rapidly, causing immense damage.
Firefighters Injured in Efforts
Two firefighters were injured during the operation. One slipped on ice and sprained their ankle, while the other has a cut hand. The firefighting operation may last for several more hours.
