Massive Russian Barrage on Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure Causes Widespread Outages

A thunderous Russian attack on Ukrainian energy plants on the night of November 7‑8 left many regions without heat, water or electricity and killed at least six people.

Night of 7‑8 November

Russian forces struck Ukrainian energy infrastructure and residential buildings across 25 cities, including Dnipro, Kyiv and Odesa, during the night of November 7‑8.

Scale of Attack

Russia deployed 458 drones and 45 missiles of various types. Polish‑reported data say 406 drones and 9 missiles were shot down.

Damage to Energy Infrastructure

Attacks caused power, heat and water outages in regions such as Poltava, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa and Kremenchuk. Train movements were also delayed.

Government Response

Prime Minister Julia Swyridneko announced repairs were underway near Poltava, Kyiv and Kharkiv. Energy Minister Switlana Grinczyk said “the enemy again mass‑attacks our energy infrastructure.”

Centrenergo Statement

The company said this was the most massive strike on Ukraine’s thermal plants since the war began, with an unprecedented number of projectiles and drones targeting the same plants it had rebuilt after last year’s attack.
