Matecki Says Police Must Be ‘Shot’ if Ziobry Gets Asylum

On Tuesday, 4 November, former Justice Minister Dariusz Matecki appeared on Telewizja Republika, insisting that if Ziobry receives political asylum in Hungary, corrupt police should be ‘shot’.

Matecki’s Shocking Words on the Arrest of Ziobry

During the Telewizja Republika program, Matecki argued that the former justice minister is pursued more by prosecutors than by foreign or mafia agents. He referred to Waldemar Żurek, noting that if Ziobry were granted asylum in Hungary, any “shadow hunter” police officer attempting to detain him should be shot by Hungarian authorities, labeling such armed intervention in a sovereign state as illegal and an armed attack.

Matecki further warned that sending asylum seekers to Hungary would constitute more than a diplomatic scandal, insisting on the necessity of strict adherence to legal norms.

What Waldemar Żurek Said About Shadow Hunters

Following a 31 October interview on Radiu Zet, Żurek explained that a special group—called “shadow hunters”—sometimes pursues fugitives. He stressed that should Ziobry obtain asylum, the decision rests with Hungary’s political leadership, namely Viktor Orbán, allied with Putin. Żurek added that if the minister sought to involve the country in that alliance, authorities would pursue him, employing European Arrest Warrants or Interpol red notices.

He clarified that a person granted legal protection by any state offers two options: an European Arrest Warrant or extradition. Żurek pledged strict observance of the law, noting that security services may still act within legal bounds.

Prosecutor Wants to Bring 26 Charges Against Ziobry

On 6 November, the Sejm’s regulations committee will consider the prosecutor’s request to lift Ziobry’s parliamentary immunity, with a full‑house vote likely the following day. Investigators allege that the former justice minister committed 26 crimes linked to irregularities in the Justice Fund, including an indictment for leading an organized criminal group.

Amid speculation that Ziobry might seek political asylum in Hungary, statements indicate he plans to return to Warsaw and sit in the Sejm on Thursday and Friday.
