Mazovian Railways Train Manager Charged Following 17-Year-Old’s Tragedy

The train manager of a Mazovian Railways service has been formally charged after a 17-year-old was severely injured in Wola Bierwiecka on February 14, 2026, while assisting a passenger with a stroller.

The Incident in Wola Bierwiecka

On February 14, 2026, a 17-year-old named Dominik suffered severe injuries at the Wola Bierwiecka station. While assisting a woman with a child and a stroller to exit the train, the teenager’s hand became trapped in the closing doors as the train began to move.

The teenager was caught between the train and the platform edge as the composition departed. The incident resulted in the loss of both his legs and a portion of his hand.

Criminal Charges and Judicial Proceedings

On June 9, the Radom District Prosecutor’s Office charged the train manager with causing a transport accident and endangering the lives and health of passengers. Investigators allege the manager failed to properly supervise the platform and initiated the departure signal prematurely.

The legal proceedings were interrupted when the suspect fell ill during the presentation of charges. He was transported to a hospital emergency department, leaving his response to the allegations and decisions regarding precautionary measures pending.

Administrative Oversight and Safety Concerns

The Office of Rail Transport (UTK) has launched an administrative inquiry following the discovery of 24 irregularities during an inspection of Mazovian Railways. These findings include failures in passenger exchange supervision, platform observation, and radio communication protocols.

Mazovian Railways has formally contested the UTK’s inspection report. The carrier is currently submitting evidence and explanations as part of the ongoing administrative process, while the prosecutor’s investigation into the accident continues.
