Measles Hits Podkarpacie: Six Cases Confirmed, Sanepid Launches Investigation

Six measles cases have been confirmed across three counties in Podkarpacie, Poland, with Sanepid opening an investigation in November.

Sanepid confirmed six measles infections among residents of Rzeszów, Ropczyce–Sędziszów, and Tarnobrzeg counties.

Infection Dates and Contact Tracing

The cases were recorded on November 7, 19, 21, and 25, all involving direct contact with infected individuals. Sanepid has taken epidemiological control of the patients.

Vaccination Appeal for Polish Parents

Doctors urge parents not to ignore measles vaccination, which is mandatory at 13–15 months and again at six years. If parents are unsure of their child’s vaccination status, they are encouraged to verify it.

Transmission and Symptoms of Measles

The virus spreads through droplets from nasal‑throat secretions, transmitted by sneezing or coughing. It is highly contagious, with a 90% infection rate among non‑immune contacts. Symptoms include fever, rash, cough, coryza, and conjunctivitis.
