Media: PiS to convene urgent meeting amid tense atmosphere; Kaczyński loses control

Warsaw, December 12: PiS leadership plans a Presidium meeting to address internal turmoil, with reports of a stifling atmosphere and senior leader Jarosław Kaczyński losing control.

Internal Turmoil in PiS

On December 12 a Presidium meeting is scheduled in Warsaw as the party braces for a crisis. Wirtualna Polska links the gathering to divisive rhetoric from Jacek Sasin and Mateusz Morawiecki, who hinted at a coalition with Grzegorz Braun. The move came after Kaczyński distanced himself from Braun and publicly criticised him, with party members describing the atmosphere as “thick” and claiming Kaczyński has lost control.

Fissures Among Party Members

Recent exchanges show intra‑party hostility. Sasin claimed Morawiecki would no longer be a PiS candidate, while Morawiecki mocked Sasin on X. Other members stayed silent or blamed Sasin, describing his claims as “comedy.” Pro‑Sasin voices attacked Morawiecki and his supporters; Tobiasz Bocheński urged a shift toward “responsible right” under PiS, and Janusz Kowalski endorsed potential cooperation with Braun to destabilise the opposing government.

Risk of Party Split

TVN24 reports that the split reflects disagreement over a candidate to lead the government should PiS win the upcoming parliamentary elections. Kaczyński reportedly fears losing enough MPs to preserve presidential vetoes, so the party has refused to remove MPs such as Łukasz Mejza, who was briefly detained for speeding on the S3 motorway and subsequently renounced parliamentary immunity.
