Mejza Waives Immunity, Faces 10 Traffic Violations

Polish MP Łukasz Mejza has relinquished his parliamentary immunity, clearing the way for prosecution over multiple traffic offenses, including speeding at 200km/h.

Immunity Waived, Prosecution Looms

Documents regarding the waiver of immunity have been forwarded to the Sejm Marshal, enabling prosecution for offenses previously shielded by parliamentary protection.

The case extends beyond a single incident.

Speeding and Multiple Violations

The most prominent case dates back to October 2025, when Łukasz Mejza was stopped on an expressway near Polkowice, Lower Silesia, for driving at 200 km/h – 80 km/h over the speed limit. Mejza initially refused the fine, citing parliamentary immunity. Police seek a 2,500 zł fine and 15 penalty points.

However, investigations by RMF FM reveal further violations. A second police request details nine additional offenses registered by speed cameras, including two instances of exceeding the speed limit by over 60 km/h and two by 40 km/h.

Delay May Have Preserved Driving License

The delay in waiving immunity may have allowed the MP to retain his driving license for as long as possible. Accumulation of all penalty points could lead to a driving ban.

In early January, Mejza claimed he could not formally waive immunity until a formal request was submitted, stating he only learned of the correspondence from the Sejm Chancellery through a journalist. He then declared his intention to waive immunity.

Previous Apology for Speeding

Following the disclosure of the October 2025 incident, the politician admitted wrongdoing, explaining he was rushing to the airport and did not accept the ticket on the spot. He pledged to pay the fine or waive immunity and accept responsibility if legally possible.

In a previous statement, the PiS MP wrote, “I behaved badly and I have no intention of talking nonsense because nothing excuses it. I apologize.”
