Confederation leader Sławomir Mentzen indicates willingness to form a coalition with PiS only after current leader Jarosław Kaczyński is removed.
Mentzen’s Coalition Condition
Confederation leader Sławomir Mentzen stated in a Radio Zet interview that his party would consider a coalition with PiS only if Jarosław Kaczyński is not part of it. Mentzen accused the PiS president of “not wanting to agree so that all sides benefit, but to destroy someone.”
Alternative PiS Leadership
During the interview, Mentzen suggested several PiS politicians—Przemysław Czarnek, Patryk Jaki, Mateusz Morawiecki, and Tobiasz Bocheński—would be “more solid partners” and “much more sensible persons” in negotiations.
Poll Shows Shift in Parliamentary Dynamics
A new OGB poll for Stan360 indicates that a change in PiS leadership would significantly alter the parliamentary balance. A combined list of Civic Coalition, Polish Peasant Party, and Poland 2050 could gain 40.87% support, while PiS would drop to 28%, and Confederation to 12.81%.
Potential Coalition Calculations
With such results, a coalition of PiS (137 seats), Confederation (52 seats), and Confederation of the Polish Crown (44 seats) would total 233 seats, exceeding the 231 needed for a majority. Meanwhile, the current government configuration would have only 227 seats, falling four short of the required majority.
