Meta blocked content from a Polish organization despite a 2021 court injunction, reinstating it only after legal intervention.
2018-2021: Legal Battle and Court Order
In 2018, accounts and groups run by the Social Initiative Narcolepsy (SIN) were blocked on Facebook and Instagram. In 2019, supported by the Panoptykon Foundation and Wardyński i Wspólnicy law firm, SIN filed a lawsuit for violation of personal rights.
As early as June 2019, the District Court in Warsaw issued an injunction order prohibiting Facebook from removing content published by SIN on a new account created after the 2018 ban (case no. IV C 608/19). In 2021, the Court of Appeal in Warsaw upheld this injunction, making it final.
2025: Meta’s Latest Defiance
Initially, Meta complied with the injunction. However, on October 31, 2025, SIN administrators were surprised to find that one of their 2019 posts had been blocked.
After lawyers from Wardyński i Wspólnicy reminded Meta’s legal representatives that the injunction is still in force, Meta restored the post to Facebook.
