Warsaw’s 2040+ transport strategy prioritises extending the metro to Ursus, adding a Wilanów‑Tarchomin line, and pivots away from a third Gocław line toward tram upgrades.
Metro Extension to Ursus
The strategy identifies extending the current metro network to Ursus as a top priority, bringing new underground stations to a rapidly developing residential district near the city’s center.
Fourth Line: Wilanów‑Tarchomin
A new fourth metro line will connect Wilanów in the south with Tarchomin in the north, creating a fresh communication spine that links distant parts of the city.
Reassessing the Gocław Line
The previously conceived third metro line to Gocław is now seen as less essential; instead, the plan focuses on improving rail options for the area.
Expanding the Tram Network
Significant tram expansions are planned for Białołęka, Siekierki, and Gocław, enhancing connectivity for areas far from metro stations and linking key transfer hubs.
Beyond City Limits
The strategy includes extending tram tracks toward nearby suburban towns, aiming to create a unified rail system for the entire metropolitan area and reduce reliance on road traffic.
