Middle East in Flames: Poland Issues Travel Warnings for Egypt, UAE, Oman

Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised its travel alert to the highest level for Qatar and Jordan, advising citizens in conflict-affected Middle Eastern countries to strictly follow local authorities.

Travel Warnings for Qatar and Jordan

Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced the highest, fourth-level warning for Qatar and Jordan – “do not travel” – and appeals to citizens to strictly follow local authorities’ recommendations.

Guidelines for Egyptian Border Crossings

The Polish Embassy in Cairo, in a February 28, 2026, communication, recommends continuously monitoring information published by Egyptian and Polish MSZ authorities. The facility recommends registration in the Odyssues system for people in Egypt planning to travel. The Taba crossing between Israel and Egypt remains open 24/7. Polish citizens can enter with a biometric or temporary passport, provided the document remains valid for at least six months.

On the Egyptian side, entry fees apply, payable exclusively in US dollars and only in cash. For travel to Sharm el-Sheikh only, the fee is $25. If the journey includes the possibility of traveling to Cairo, the cost increases to $80. Transport is available from Taba to Sharm el-Sheikh and Cairo through Egyptian transport offices.

Israel Airspace Remains Closed

The Polish Embassy in Tel Aviv reports that Israeli airspace remains closed until further notice. According to appeals from the Israeli Home Front Command, movement within the country is not recommended. Citizens should remain calm and strictly follow local authorities’ instructions.

Safety Recommendations for Polish Citizens in Israel

Polish citizens in Israel and the West Bank have been advised to secure financial resources and carry identification documents, a charged phone, medications, and a water supply. In practice, this means preparing for potential long-term restrictions on civil infrastructure.

Qatar Suspends Civilian Air Traffic

Qatari authorities have decided to temporarily close airspace for civilian traffic. This means suspending takeoffs and landings at Hamad International Airport in Doha until further notice. Poland’s MSZ raised the warning to level 4 – “do not travel,” strongly advising against all trips, including transit.

Recommendations for Polish Citizens in Qatar

Polish citizens in Qatar have been advised to stay at home or other safe places until the threat subsides. Citizens in transit – both at the airport and in hotels provided by carriers – should remain in their accommodation and maintain constant contact with the airline. Qatar Airways has activated a crisis team; passengers can contact +974 4144 5555. In case of direct threat in Qatar, the emergency number is 999. The Polish Embassy in Doha has established a 24/7 emergency number +974 3368 0766.

Security Advice for Iraq

The Polish Embassy in Baghdad and the Polish Consulate General in Erbil are monitoring developments in Iraq in the context of regional military actions. Citizens have been advised to avoid large gatherings and strategic sites, including military installations.

It is recommended to stay inside buildings, preferably in rooms with minimal windows and external walls, carry identification documents, a phone with a backup power source, basic medications, and a water supply. In case of possible air traffic restrictions, constant contact with the carrier and monitoring airport communications is advised.

Jordan Travel Alert Raised to Level 4

Poland’s MSZ raised the warning level for Jordan to level 4 on March 1, 2026. All travel to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is discouraged. People in the country have been advised to remain calm and monitor communications from local authorities and the Polish consular facility.

Flight Operations in Saudi Arabia and Oman

The Polish Embassy in Riyadh reports that air traffic at airports in Saudi Arabia and Oman is operating, though delays and flight cancellations are possible. The facility is also monitoring the situation in Yemen. Citizens have been advised to avoid strategic sites and monitor current communications. In case of life-threatening situations in Saudi Arabia, the emergency number is +966 54 880 7718.

UAE Airspace Temporarily Closed

Following rocket attacks from Iranian territory to selected targets in the UAE, authorities have decided to temporarily close airspace. Takeoffs and landings at airports in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah have been suspended. Polish citizens should remain in safe places, preferably away from windows, and follow alerts sent to mobile phones. The Polish Embassy in Abu Dhabi has provided the number +971 50 662 61 51 and an email address for contact.

Poland’s Additional Hotline for Middle East Crisis

Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established an additional hotline +48 22 523 88 80, operating from Sunday at 5:00 PM Polish time, to support Polish citizens in the Middle East. All communications recommend registration in the Odyssues system and monitoring current alerts.
