Miedwiediew on Trump‑Zelensky Meeting: ‘We Must Be Ready for Next Steps’

Russian foreign minister Dmitrij Miedwiediew weighed in on Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky’s White House meeting, stressing the talk of Tomahawk missiles and warning that the fight for the next stage remains ahead.

Miedwiediew Highlights Tomahawk Discussion

Dmitrij Miedwiediew, commenting on the White House meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, brought particular attention to the subject of Tomahawk missiles. He described Trump as “effectively playing with Tomahawks” in his characteristic manner, putting pressure on global public opinion.

Miedwiediew added that Trump “ended the game under the best traditions of sending atomic submarines” and implied that talks about sending Tomahawks or threatening the deployment of U‑boats near Russia are simply part of Trump’s rhetoric aimed at exerting pressure.

Trump’s Tomahawk Rhetoric Is Just Pressure

According to Miedwiediew, the reference to Tomahawks and potential U‑boat deployment is merely a rhetorical device used by Trump to exert pressure on the international stage.

Ukraine and Russia Should Be Recognized as Winners

In an earlier portion of his statement, Miedwiediew echoed remarks that both Ukraine and Russia should be seen as winners of the conflict, a view he says would prevent Zelensky from feeling victorious in his own country.

Zelensky Clarifies Trump’s Position on Tomahawks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking to American broadcaster NBC, said Trump did not explicitly commit to supplying Tomahawks, describing the issue as delicate and noting that the president’s signal was that the quantity of Tomahawks is too small to meet U.S. interests. Zelensky emphasized that he cannot disclose conversation details but expects the dialogue to continue.

He also mentioned that Russia’s dictator fears the image of a Ukrainian army armed with Tomahawks, and he proposed offering Ukraine unmanned drone systems in exchange for man‑evolved Tomahawk rockets.
