Investigation into Abandoned Military Equipment
Soldiers from the Military Gendarmerie unit in Elbląg conducted procedural activities on Thursday, May 28, following a report of wooden crates with military markings discovered in a forest near Januszkowo, in the Nidzica district.
Lieutenant Colonel Dariusz Rozkosz, press spokesperson for the Commandant General of the Military Gendarmerie, confirmed the recovery of 33 crates intended for the transport of 120mm training rounds. Inspections confirmed the crates were empty and posed no threat to human health or safety.
Conflicting Accounts from Witnesses
According to Polsat News, the crates were found by passersby. One local resident stated that a witness photographed the contents and sent the image to a soldier, who identified them as training rounds for Leopard tanks. Another witness, a former soldier, claimed the markings suggested they were training rockets for RPGs.
Military officials have officially refuted the claims that any live or dangerous ordnance was present in the discovered containers. Authorities are currently working to identify the origin of the crates and locate their owner.
