On Saturday, May 9, before 9 AM, police received a report that a random person found an object resembling a drone in a field in Bartoszyce County, near the village of Osieka in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Osieka is located approximately 23 kilometers from the Kaliningrad Oblast border.

Police Notify Military Authorities

Police officers confirmed the report and secured the scene, subsequently notifying other services, including the fire department, the military, and the military prosecutor’s office. Services are currently conducting activities on site to determine whether the object poses a threat to bystanders.

“Depending on the findings, the object will most likely be secured by the Military Police. For now, that’s all the information I can provide,” said subinspector Marta Kabelis, press spokeswoman for the Bartoszyce County Police Commander.

Unofficial Reports Indicate Cyrillic Script

According to unofficial information from RMF FM, the object bears inscriptions made in Cyrillic. The broadcaster also reported that “the device is equipped with a camera or cameras and is not the type of drone one can normally buy in a store. Here, the services are talking more about a larger, specialized drone.” Police are exercising great caution and refuse to confirm whether the device is military in nature or if it has Cyrillic inscriptions.

Military Police Confirm Likely Origin

Lieutenant Colonel Dariusz Rozkosz, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Military Police, informed in a social media statement that “initial actions at the scene indicate that it is probably a DRONE of military origin, intended for observation, without combat features.”

He added that the proceedings in this matter are being conducted by the Military Police under the supervision of the Prosecutor of the 8th Military Affairs Department of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Olsztyn, with necessary procedural actions ongoing at the scene.
