Millions of Refugees, Generators and Support: Did Poland Deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?

An 85% majority in a poll supports Poland receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for its assistance to Ukraine since 2022.

Political Proposal for Nobel Peace Prize

On Sunday, we reported on a statement by Paweł Kowal from the Civic Coalition. On TVN24, he proposed that the Polish parliament apply for the Nobel Peace Prize for the Polish nation for the assistance provided to Ukraine after 2022. We also presented the political background of this proposal, including the dispute over a potential nomination for Donald Trump. After the article, we asked readers whether Poles should receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Decisive Support for the Initiative

In our poll, we asked whether Poles should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for helping Ukrainians. The “Yes, definitely” option was chosen by 85.32% of voters, which translated to 4,587 responses (result as of February 12, 2026). The negative response was indicated by 7.42%, or 399 people. Meanwhile, 7.25% of participants, or 390 people, chose the “Hard to say” variant. A total of 5,376 votes were cast.

Poland’s Multifaceted Assistance to Ukraine

After the Russian invasion in February 2022, Poland supported the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, which the Sejm expressed in a resolution. Poland provided Ukraine with financial and humanitarian aid, transferred weapons, and became the main country accepting war refugees. Millions of people passed through its territory since 2022, with most staying and some traveling further to other countries.

Developing Political and Military Cooperation

In subsequent years, political and military cooperation was developed, intergovernmental consultations were organized, and security agreements were signed. In 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of security, and in Poland, the Council for Cooperation with Ukraine was established as an auxiliary body to the prime minister.

Mixed Reactions in Comments

Comments under the article showed various emotions. There was no shortage of irony and doubt. Both voices of support and clear criticism appeared regarding the idea of nominating Poles for the Nobel Peace Prize. Some commentators referred to the initiative with distance or irony, questioning the sense of such an award. Others pointed out whether international recognition is needed at all and whether the scale of support still looks as it did at the beginning of the war.
