Polish presidential minister Marcin Przydacz exchanged sharp words with TVN24 journalist over diplomatic appointment procedures.
Przydacz vs Journalist on Diplomatic Process
Polish presidential minister Marcin Przydacz engaged in a heated exchange with TVN24 journalist Patryk Michalski regarding ambassadorial nominations. “Everything depends on the stance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Przydacz stated, emphasizing that nominations require proper constitutional procedure.
The debate intensified when Michalski questioned whether the Presidential Office wanted additional consultations regarding ambassador candidates. Przydacz retorted: “Did you read the entire interview? As usual, are you taking sides?”
Sikorski: Compromise Possible Based on Law
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski commented on ongoing talks with President Karol Nawrocki about ambassadorial nominations. “The talks were constructive, but I must remind you of Polish law,” Sikorski stated, noting that the president has certain prerogatives but needs both countersignature and ministerial request for ambassador appointments.
Sikorski confirmed there is room for compromise with the president but emphasized it “must be based on legal grounds” and “without discriminating against professional diplomats.”
Legal Framework for Ambassador Nominations
According to Article 39 of Poland’s Foreign Service Act, the President appoints and dismisses ambassadors on the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, requiring approval from the Prime Minister and prior consultation with the Foreign Service Convention.
