Polish Minister Marcin Kierwiński told journalists that the government will not allow repeated acts of sabotage by Ukrainians, insisting Ukraine provide timely updates on indicted individuals amid EU migration pact negotiations.
Stance on Ukrainian Sabotage
Marcin Kierwiński said the talks with Ukraine over sabotage incidents involving Ukrainian citizens are proceeding well. He reiterated the government’s resolve to curb similar acts in the future.
Expectations for Ukraine
The minister stated that Ukraine must provide real‑time information on all individuals who are secretly prosecuted for sabotage. He added that such individuals should be recorded in international systems to safeguard the border.
EU Migration Pact Exclusion
On 8 December, EU countries agreed to exempt Poland from the migrant relocation mechanism. Poland is also relieved from any associated costs.
Southern European Discontent
Some southern EU member states expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. Kierwiński noted that the discussion was heated and not all European countries were satisfied.
Solidarity Pool and Exemptions
The solidarity pool allows countries to either accept migrants from crisis states or pay €20,000 per unaccepted person. Poland, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, and Estonia received exemptions due to high border protection costs and refugee intake from Ukraine.
