Miss Poland Murdered at Home Before Husband and Daughter

Agnieszka Kotlarska, Miss Poland 1991 and international titleholder, was brutally murdered at her Wrocław home in August 1996, with her husband involved and her 2½‑year‑old daughter witnessing.

Early Life and Mother’s Influence

Halina, a train conductor on the Świdnica–Wrocław line, met Anton, a university student, and became the mother of Agnieszka, born August 1972. A few years later Agnieszka began working as an engineer at Polar washing‑machine factory while her mother managed the household and encouraged her to earn extra income.

Agnieszka’s first modeling job paid 100 PLN, which helped keep the family afloat. The modest earnings were considered a boost, but the new income was not lavish enough to distract the family from everyday expenses.

Modeling Career and Industry Connections

Agnieszka’s natural beauty and adaptability caught the attention of Konrad Wyrwas, founder of the KonArt agency. She received training from ballet masters and makeup artists, meeting strict standards of appearance and rhythm.

Despite limited opportunities in the 1990s Polish fashion scene, she amassed numerous jobs and established herself as a promising model.

The Mysterious ‘Dwarf’ Stalker

Local reports describe a man nicknamed “krasnoludek” (dwarf) who allegedly stalked Agnieszka near the school and at bus stops. He supposedly lurked behind the fence after classes, observing her but never approaching her directly.

Agnesia’s mother claimed she earned the stalker’s attention, yet the man neither attempted to speak with her nor offered help. The phenomenon remained isolated to the school perimeter.

The Murder at Home

On the night of 7 August 1996, Agnieszka was stabbed at her Wrocław home by her husband while her 2½‑year‑old daughter watched. The assailant used a knife in a fatal attack, claiming that the incident had been premeditated.

Police investigations focused on domestic motives, with the husband held responsible for the crime.

Investigation and Book

Author Ewa Wilczyńska uncovered fresh documents, interviewed Agnieszka’s relatives and the killer, and described the media’s role in the investigation. Her book, *Miss. Murder of Agnieszka Kotlarska*, premiered on 12 November and discusses the fashion industry’s influence and the killer’s obsession.

The book’s research revealed intricate family ties, detailing how politics and ambition shaped Agnieszka’s life and demise.

Daughter’s Perspective

The young daughter, now grown, reflects on growing up under her mother’s shadow, the fear that accompanied her father’s presence, and the enduring impact of her mother’s death on the family.

She recalls her father’s recurrent stalking of her, an incident that continued to shape her perception of safety and trust.
