Mokotów Standoff Ends: Counterterrorists Storm Apartment After Man Fires Objects at Cars

On Monday, October 27, police and emergency crews converged on Warsaw’s Mokotów district after a man threw kitchen items through a window, damaging parked cars, and were later joined by counterterrorists who seized him.

Arrival of Police and Rescue on Olkuska Street

At about 18:00 on Monday, October 27, officers responded to reports of an aggressive man who, following a dispute with his wife, had barricaded himself in an apartment and began throwing objects through a window at Olkuska Street in the Mokotów district.

Massive Mobilization of Services

Within minutes, several dozen police patrols, the Medical Rescue Team, three fire brigade units, an operational city unit, and gas and electrical emergency teams arrived on scene. A safety zone was established and additional counter‑terrorism officers were called for support.

Man Continues to Throw Items Through Window

He repeatedly hurled items, including a microwave oven and plates, which fell in the parking area, damaging several vehicles. The site was cordoned and secured while authorities worked the scene.

Counterterrorists Intervene and Arrest

After roughly two hours, counterterrorists entered the apartment, subdued the suspect and took him into custody. No injuries were reported; the detainee was handed to the Medical Rescue Team and transported to a hospital under police escort.

Background and Ongoing Investigation

Investigators revealed that the apartment had previously been flagged for domestic disputes. The man had been released from prison several months earlier. Police will continue the inquiry, inspecting damaged vehicles and the “scene” for evidence.

Impact on Traffic

Operations and site security caused pedestrian and vehicular congestion on Olkuska Street until the activities were completed. Gas and electrical teams remained on standby for any sudden incidents.
