Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced the formation of a new association aimed at attracting voters from across the political right, while dismissing rumors of a departure from the PiS party.
Morawiecki Announces New Association Focused on the “Mythical Center”
Mateusz Morawiecki announced the creation of a new association in an interview with Wirtualna Polska. He stated the association will aim to capture the “mythical center” of Polish politics.
Morawiecki explained he intends to bring together individuals who feel unrepresented by existing right-wing parties, including PiS, Konfederacja, and Korona Polska.
Appeal to Local Government, Business, and Civic Groups
Morawiecki also stated that local government officials, entrepreneurs, and civic activists have encouraged him to create “something non-partisan.” They express a desire to support a patriotic government but find existing parties lacking.
He is seeking a formula to build a broad patriotic camp, emphasizing the need to appeal to a wider range of voters.
Goal: Removing Tusk from Power
Morawiecki emphasized that a common goal among potential members of the new association is to remove Donald Tusk from power.
Collaboration with Existing Organizations
When asked about potential collaborators, Morawiecki stated he prefers not to reveal too much at this stage. He did mention ongoing cooperation with the Institute of Eastern Flank, the Sobieski Institute, the Tak dla Rozwoju, Tak dla CPK association, About Polska, and the OdNowa association.
He also cited the Solidarna Polska association and an organization founded by former Prime Minister Beata Szydło as potential partners.
Seeking a Broader Base of Support
Morawiecki believes that these associations share a common desire to oust Donald Tusk, but need more time to fully trust PiS. He also noted significant interest in collaborating with the new association.
He envisions the association as a tool to broaden the electorate, mirroring tactics used by Donald Tusk in 2023 and earlier with the Third Way and other groups.
Aiming for a 10% Increase in PiS Support
Morawiecki hopes the new association will help increase support for PiS by at least 10 percentage points, from 27% to 37%. He believes this is necessary for PiS to become the leading force in the fight for power.
Targeting a Diverse Range of Voters
Morawiecki stated the association will target “people of good will,” from radicals to centrists, young people, entrepreneurs, local government officials, women, and those who have turned away from PiS.
No Plans to Leave PiS or Seek Leadership Role
Morawiecki firmly denied any intention of leaving PiS or forming his own party, repeatedly stating, “There is simply no such topic.” He also dismissed questions about seeking the position of PiS chairman, stating he will discuss his ambitions at the appropriate time.
