Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is preparing another policy conference focused on judicial reform, despite internal PiS party disputes and a recent suspension.
Morawiecki Prepares Another Policy Conference
Mateusz Morawiecki and his allies are preparing a new policy conference for Poland’s “Work Team.” The event will focus on judicial reform and changes to the justice system, with Krzysztof Szczucki and Paweł Jabłoński involved in the preparations.
This would be the third major policy conference organized in recent weeks under the former prime minister’s leadership. Previous conferences presented reports intended to form part of PiS’s program for the 2027 parliamentary elections, covering economic development, industry, and local investment.
Szczucki’s Suspension Adds Political Weight
The planned conference gained additional political attention following the suspension of Krzysztof Szczucki from PiS, a close associate of Morawiecki. Despite this, those around the former prime minister believe the event should proceed, fearing withdrawal would be seen as a sign of weakness.
Sources suggest a more radical wing of the party is still attempting to push Morawiecki and his circle out, with Szczucki being a member of that group. Szczucki could participate as an expert and lawyer rather than as a PiS politician, but this may further escalate tensions within the party.
Concerns Over Kaczyński’s Reaction
Within PiS, Morawiecki’s team’s conferences are reportedly met with mixed feelings and are not strongly promoted by the party. Some party members anticipate that the next initiative may irritate Jarosław Kaczyński.
However, signals from Morawiecki’s circle suggest that the PiS chairman should not have a problem with the event. The dispute extends beyond the event itself and involves broader competition within the party. Szczucki and Jabłoński are critical of some of the changes to the justice system implemented during Zbigniew Ziobro’s tenure and want to present their own proposals.
Morawiecki’s Interview Fuels Tensions
Tensions surrounding the former prime minister increased after his recent interview discussing a new association and warning against undermining the achievements of the PiS government. Some party politicians perceived this as an attempt to set a separate direction for the entire camp.
TVN reports that Kaczyński summoned Morawiecki for a meeting, although PiS politicians claim the conversation was calm and, with the holidays approaching, “everyone wishes each other peace and family time.” Michał Dworczyk and Paweł Jabłoński publicly defended Szczucki, deeming the suspension unjustified.
