Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki addressed warnings from PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński regarding his involvement with the new “Development Plus” association.
Morawiecki Defends “Development Plus” Association
Mateusz Morawiecki stated that the “Development Plus” association will operate on an expert and meritocratic level, not a political one, and aligns with the ideological goals of Law and Justice (PiS). He affirmed the association’s continuation.
Morawiecki noted that PiS members participate in various associations, emphasizing the importance of consistency with the party’s goals and principles as outlined in its statutes. He believes a compromise can be reached.
Assurances Regarding Electoral Lists
Morawiecki expressed confidence regarding places on electoral lists, stating he is scheduled to meet with Jarosław Kaczyński on Monday. He intends to remain within PiS and contribute to ousting the current government.
He explained that “Development Plus” will focus on collaboration with local governments, entrepreneurs, young people, and various groups currently somewhat distanced from the more radical wing of PiS.
Kaczyński Warns Against “Parasitism”
Jarosław Kaczyński warned that individuals involved with the “Development Plus” association will not be included on PiS electoral lists. He questioned whether the association would attempt to siphon off PiS members before attacking them.
Approximately 40 PiS Members Join Association
Around 40 PiS MPs and MEPs have joined the “Development Plus” association. Kaczyński announced on Friday that there would be no place on PiS lists for those actively involved in the association.
Distinction from Other Associations
Kaczyński argued that the “Development Plus” association differs from other associations involving PiS members, such as OdNowa, which he considers beneficial. He stated there is no intention to transform it into a strictly political organization.
He expressed concern that the association could lead to “parasitism,” creating a new party using PiS’s resources, which he believes is unnecessary and detrimental to the unity of PiS and the broader right-wing.
Statute Concerns
Following a meeting of the PiS Political Committee, party spokesman Rafał Bochenek stated that activity within the association contradicts the PiS statute, which prohibits members from participating in other political organizations.
