Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has secured a preliminary meeting with PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński on Monday, following disagreements over a new association he founded.
Morawiecki Confirms Planned Meeting
Mateusz Morawiecki, a vice-president of PiS, announced on Saturday that he has a preliminary meeting scheduled with PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński on Monday.
Morawiecki added that he is “absolutely” confident about securing places on the electoral lists for MPs who have joined his newly established association, Rozwój Plus (Development Plus).
Kaczyński Warns Against Association’s Impact
Jarosław Kaczyński warned on Friday that there would be no place on the Law and Justice (PiS) lists for individuals actively involved in the association created by Mateusz Morawiecki.
He also expressed hope that those who have taken such actions would realize they are harming Poland.
Morawiecki Remains Optimistic
Responding to Kaczyński’s comments on Saturday in RMF FM, Morawiecki reiterated his confidence regarding places on the lists for MPs who joined Rozwój Plus.
He stated he would strive to ensure even greater representation of current PiS MPs in the future parliament.
Rozwój Plus and PiS Statutes
Morawiecki believes that his Rozwój Plus association does not conflict with the PiS statutes, anticipating a peaceful resolution.
No Expulsion from PiS, Morawiecki Insists
When asked if Kaczyński’s actions were aimed at expelling him from PiS, Morawiecki firmly responded, “Absolutely not.”
He affirmed his commitment to remaining in PiS and working to remove the current government from power.
Expanding Voter Outreach
Morawiecki acknowledged the need for diverse sensitivities and channels to reach voters.
He explained that Rozwój Plus would focus on collaboration with local government officials, entrepreneurs, young people, and various groups who may feel disconnected from the more radical elements within PiS.
Party Committee Discusses Morawiecki’s Association
Following a Thursday meeting of the PiS Political Committee, party spokesman Rafał Bochenek stated that discussions included current political issues and internal party matters, including Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus association.
Bochenek noted the conversation took place in a “very calm tone,” but added that activities conducted by PiS members within the association are contrary to the PiS statutes.
Formation of Rozwój Plus and Internal Party Concerns
In early April, Morawiecki confirmed the establishment of his association, bringing together individuals who feel dissatisfied with various right-wing parties, including PiS, Konfederacja, and Korona Polska.
Following the announcement, Kaczyński and Morawiecki met to discuss the situation within the party, with sources indicating the meeting aimed to “discipline” the former prime minister whose actions were perceived as deviating from the party line.
